We have some news that’s a little bit of a bummer, even if it’s not entirely unexpected so you might want to prepare yourself if you’re a Miles Morales fan and the Spider-Verse movies. Again, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse has been delayed.
Yes, that’s what you heard. The release of the highly anticipated conclusion to Miles’s animated saga which was previously scheduled for June 4, 2027 has been pushed back to June 25, 2027. Three weeks may not seem like a lot but it’s another setback for a movie fans have been waiting for since the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse.
Honestly, this isn’t a total surprise. The journey for Beyond the Spider-Verse has been a wild ride. The original plan was for Across the Spider-Verse and Beyond the Spider-Verse to be released much closer together like two parts of the same story. But the ambition of these movies, the animation and the attention to detail requires a lot of time.
They’ve been talking about the release schedule for these films for a while now. There’s been speculation about the crazy workload and tight deadlines the animators faced on Across the Spider-Verse and how many artists left the project because of it. Creating that level of art takes time and effort even if the end result is gorgeous.
Given the complexity of the animation, the 2024 release date for Beyond seemed impossible from the start. When Across the Spider-Verse finally dropped we were all blown away and left with a cliffhanger. Then the film was pulled from the schedule indefinitely and rescheduled for June 2027 and now this tiny adjustment.
No reason was given for the three week shift but it’s probably a studio decision. Maybe they’re trying to optimize the release window, avoid another big film that just moved its release date or align with better school holidays worldwide. These small adjustments happen in Hollywood for logistical reasons.
