James Gunn addresses fan-favorite Alan Ritchson for DCU's Batman

The DCU is always full of excitement and rumors, especially now that James Gunn’s Superman is out. Everyone is wondering: who will play Batman in the DCU?

James Gunn was recently interviewed on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast by Josh Horowitz and of course they talked about Batman. Gunn was asked about fans wanting Alan Ritchson, who is famous for playing in “Reacher,” to be cast as Batman.

If you’ve been following the DCU you know James Gunn is very tight lipped about casting until everything is confirmed. But his answer about Ritchson was interesting. He didn’t say no which is a big thing. Instead he said, and I’m quoting, “I like Alan Ritchson. As an actor and as a person. Let’s wait and see.”

“Let’s just wait and see.” That means not no. In Hollywood especially when casting a iconic character like Batman this kind of answer from the co-CEO of DC Studios gets people talking online. He’s definitely being noticed and maybe even being considered for something.

Alan Ritchson has openly said he wants to be Batman even joking he’d do it for free. His role as Jack Reacher really shows off his physique and serious demeanor which many fans think is perfect for Bruce Wayne. He’s familiar with the DC universe. He played Aquaman in “Smallville” and Hawk in “Titans.” So he knows his way around the DC world.

Gunn also said the casting for Batman in the upcoming film The Brave and the Bold which will feature Batman and his son Damian Wayne as Robin is not their top priority right now. He said they need to work more on the script before they can start talking about casting. That makes sense – you have to know what the character’s tone and needs are in the script before you can choose the actor.

Gunn mentioned Ritchson by name and said nice things about him. That means the efforts from the fans for Ritchson have caught the attention of the people at DC Studios. Although he didn’t say yes, his answer has definitely given hope to fans who think Ritchson can be a great, impressive and maybe even more grown up Batman for the DCU.

The DCU is still building its main characters. Now that Superman is out and doing well the attention is shifting to Batman. It’s not clear if Alan Ritchson will be the one to wear the cowl but James Gunn’s recent comments keeps him in the running.
