The latest news from the set of Avengers: Doomsday. Specifically, we’re diving into what Chris Hemsworth, our Thor, had to say about filming this highly anticipated movie.
Chris has been doing some press for his new movie “Limitless” and of course Doomsday came up in the conversation. He’s said that filming is going well and he’s really excited to be back with some of the old gang and welcoming in some new talent to the team. You can almost feel the enthusiasm oozing out of him in these interviews and it’s making me even more excited for what the Russo Brothers are cooking up.
One of the many interesting things he mentioned was New Asgard. For those who remember, after the events of Infinity War and Endgame, the Asgardians set up their new home in a small fishing village in Scotland. It was a beautiful but a bit of a mess and we got some great moments with Thor who was basically a Thor- version of The Big Lebowski. Chris confirmed that New Asgard will not be filming in Scotland for Doomsday.
This is big. This means a few things. It could mean New Asgard isn’t as important to the story of Doomsday as it was in previous movies. Or it could mean something happened in New Asgard that forced the Asgardians (Thor in particular) to go down a different path. Considering the title Doomsday you can’t help but think things are not going well for anyone anywhere. Chris loves filming in Scotland and described the Highlands as a perfect place to film battle scenes. He would have loved to go back. But it looks like the story is taking Thor in a new direction.

He also talked about the overall vibe on set. He didn’t get into the plot (because let’s be real, Marvel has eyes and ears everywhere) but you can tell he’s really happy to be back with the cast. He loves reuniting with familiar faces and so do we and it’s great to hear. That’s what makes these big crossovers so special.
It’s no secret that Avengers: Doomsday is going to be a massive crossover event, bringing together multiple superhero teams. Recent set photos have hinted at an unprecedented team up between the Avengers, New Avengers and the Fantastic Four. The cast is insane, with Robert Downey Jr. allegedly reprising his role, Doctor Doom making a comeback, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Anthony Mackie as Captain America and more. Imagining Chris Hemsworth as Thor surrounded by old and new characters in what’s going to be a real doomsday scenario is exciting.
The Russo Brothers are back at the helm again and after their work on Infinity War and Endgame, I have total faith in them to deliver something big and emotional. Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars a year later.
Chris Hemsworth has been tight lipped about the details but his recent comments give us a little insight into his experience with Avengers: Doomsday. The lack of New Asgard and his enthusiasm for the scale and the cast suggests that Thor (and by extension the entire MCU) is about to enter uncharted territory.
