Warner Bros Pictures Animation has announced that Ariana Grande and Josh Gad will star in the voice cast for the animated musical adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go. The film hits theaters and IMAX on March 17, 2028. Jon M. Chu directs with Jill Culton. The 1990 children’s classic was the last book Dr. Seuss wrote before he passed away in 1991.
The story follows a young adventurer as he goes up and down the ups and downs of life and shares wisdom about resilience and self discovery. The screenplay is by Rob Lieber and original songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land and The Greatest Showman). This is going to be a wild ride of magic and feels.
This is the second time Grande and Chu have worked together, after Wicked which Grande was Oscar nominated for playing Glinda. Grande took to social media to share her excitement saying the script and the world of Dr. Seuss are beautiful and this is a dream come true. Gad (Olaf in Frozen and Broadway’s The Book of Mormon) brings his comedic genius to the film and makes it even more fun. Bad Robot (J.J. Abrams) and Dr. Seuss Enterprises produced with Warner Bros so this is a top priority for the studio and families will love it.
Fans are going wild and we can’t wait to see what Grande and Gad do with the Seuss universe. The book’s themes of self-discovery and overcoming are a graduation gift and the vibrant adaptation will be for all ages. We don’t know the plot or character details yet but with Pasek and Paul on board we know the soundtrack will be full of catchy, bouncy songs. Grande’s ethereal voice and Gad’s playful charm and energy will be a great combo and set us up for a cinematic journey we won’t soon forget.
A lot of people are skeptical about another Doctor. Seuss. Seuss asks if Hollywood’s obsession with established franchises is killing original storytelling. Previous Dr. Seuss adaptations, like the 2008 film “Horton Hears a Who” and the 2012 presentation “The Lorax” got mixed reviews.
But Jon M. Chu’s track record of creating visually stunning musicals (Crazy Rich Asians and upcoming Wicked) gives us hope. With Grande and Gad’s star power and a forward thinking team that gets the book’s spirit, Oh the Places You’ll Go can reimagine Dr. Seuss for a modern audience in 2028. Seuss reimagined for 2028.
