Pandora has done it again, it seems, and released the first teaser trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash early. The trailer was supposed to debut in theaters next weekend with Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps but has already started to pop up in high definition on various online platforms. Disney and 20th Century Studios are trying to remove the leaked versions but a lot of fans have already seen it around the world.
Insights from the Leaked Trailer
The trailer gives us a quick glimpse into the December 19, 2025 release. We see stunning landscapes of Pandora that are very different from the green forests and blue seas of the previous movies. Reports say there’s a focus on volcanic landscapes with rivers of lava and mountains shrouded in ash which aligns with what James Cameron said about the “Ash People”, a new and more powerful clan of Na’vi.
Among the many cool things fans are seeing in the leak is a scene where Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) tells Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) that “you can’t live in hate”. This seems to foreshadow a conflict among the Na’vi and the trailer allegedly shows Neytiri and Varang, the head of the Ash People. There’s a suggestion that Jake might surrender or get caught by the RDA and fans are speculating if he’ll go back to Earth.
The visuals even in the leaked version are breathtaking and go beyond what we’ve seen in the Avatar universe. As we revisit familiar places we see new elements and cultural nuances of Pandora and it looks like we’re in for a big expansion of the world and its inhabitants.
The Impact and What Comes Next

Definitely a bummer for Disney’s well thought out marketing plan. Trailers are released at specific times to generate the most buzz and coincide with big movie events. Like the alleged leak of Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey trailer, this leak forces the studios to act.
To minimize the damage, Disney will likely release the official trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash online in the next few days. The leak gives fans an early thrill but also breaks the controlled environment in which studios want to debut the first look of a big movie.
The leak only adds to the excitement for Avatar: Fire and Ash even if it’s a little earlier than expected. James Cameron has said he wants to explore darker themes and “different cultures than I’ve shown before” and “less positive” Na’vi. The trailer looks like it delivers on that when it hits theaters this December.
