Big news from overseas about a highly anticipated remake that is currently in production. Taylor Russell has dropped out of the new The Thomas Crown Affair remake, which means a big role needs to be recast while they’re still filming in London.

This is a big update since production has been going on for about two weeks in the UK. Taylor Russell, known for her great work in movies like Bones and All and Waves, was going to be in the film alongside Michael B. Jordan who is not only acting in the film but also directing it. She was cast as the insurance investigator, a role that Faye Dunaway played in the original 1968 version and Rene Russo played in the 1999 remake. This character is key to the back and forth and chemistry that makes The Thomas Crown Affair a classic.

So why did Taylor Russell leave? Reports say it’s due to “creative differences.” This means she and the director or studio didn’t agree on how to play the character or the direction of the film. That’s a tough spot for any production especially when the cameras are already rolling.

This puts the studio in a bind. With Michael B. Jordan directing and acting in the film and a good supporting cast that includes Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone and Danai Gurira they need to find a replacement fast. Production is still happening in London so they’re trying to minimize any delays from the casting change.

It’s a bummer because Taylor Russell is a great actress and many were looking forward to her being in it. She has a lot of energy and presence in her roles and many fans were excited to see her with Michael B. The role needs someone smart, charming and able to keep up with Thomas Crown and create some sparks. Those are big shoes to fill since Dunaway and Russo did so well before.

This new version of The Thomas Crown Affair has been in the works for a long time with Michael B. Jordan waiting years for it to get greenlit. It’s scheduled to be released March 5, 2027 so they still have time to fix things. But losing a main actor during production is tough. We’ll keep you posted on who they choose to replace Taylor Russell. That’s a big role and we can’t wait to see who they pick. Even stars and directors can get surprised in Hollywood.
