The Season 5 trailer for Stranger Things just dropped and it’s full of excitement, scares and a sad reminder of Eddie Munson. The teaser for the final season has fans hyped especially about the scene at Eddie’s grave. Today we’re diving into what this means for Hawkins, Dustin and the big battle with Vecna. Buckle up and get ready to enter the Upside Down one last time!
Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn, won us all over in Stranger Things Season 4 as the cool metalhead in charge of the Hellfire Club. His brave act of playing Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” to distract the Demobats in the Upside Down made him a fan favorite. But Eddie didn’t survive; he died in Dustin’s arms after helping his friends.
The Season 5 trailer dropped on July 16, 2022 and he’s still gone. It shows Dustin visiting his grave in Hawkins. The tombstone with “Burn in Hell” written in blood is shocking and sad. It shows the town still thinks Eddie is responsible for Vecna’s murders especially Chrissy’s even though he was brave.
This scene highlights the fear of Satanism that consumed Hawkins in the ‘80s. Eddie was unfairly blamed as a cult leader because he liked Dungeons and Dragons and heavy metal music. Dustin looks beat up in the trailer which means he might have gotten hurt for standing up for Eddie. This shows the town still has a lot of prejudice. Eddie’s death affected everyone especially Dustin. Their friendship in Season 4 was one of the best parts of the show. The serious moment shows Eddie’s legacy still matters even though he’s not here.
The trailer shows Eddie is dead but it’s got us wondering again if he’ll come back especially the Kas theory. In the D&D stories Kas is a vampire who works for Vecna but ends up betraying him. Fans think Vecna might bring Eddie back as a dark servant because he died in a bat related way and has bat tattoos and a black widow spider tattoo.
The trailer features Deep Purple’s song “Child in Time” which Eddie would have loved. Plus the first episode is titled “The Crawl” which might be referencing the lyrics from “Master of Puppets”. This supports the idea. Could Eddie come back as a puppet of Vecna and then break free?
Other options could be flashbacks or Vecna using Eddie’s appearance to scare Dustin, exploiting their friendship. The trailer is all about the Upside Down and shows egg sacs that means Vecna’s army is getting bigger. So there could be supernatural surprises that brings Eddie back in some way. But since Joseph Quinn is busy with A Quiet Place: Day One and The Fantastic Four, it doesn’t look like he’s coming back. The Duffer Brothers love to surprise people so a cameo or mindscape appearance could still happen.
Eddie’s grave in the trailer isn’t just sad; it shows what’s at stake emotionally for Season 5. The disrespect shows Hawkins doesn’t see Eddie as a hero which might push Dustin and his friends to prove he’s innocent. With the town under military lockdown and Vecna’s forces nearby the battle feels very personal.
The trailer shows three release dates: November 26, December 25 and December 31 2025 and promises a big ending. Eddie’s memory might make the crew work harder, themes of friendship and second chances. Whether he shows up or not his sacrifice affects the fight to come.
