The Odyssey IMAX Tickets Are Officially On Sale One Year Early!
Universal Pictures

A movie event that’s breaking all the rules. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey IMAX 70mm tickets are officially on sale—a full year before the film’s release.

ScreenRant says tickets for The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm went on sale July 17, 2025. That’s exactly one year before the movie’s release on July 17, 2026. That’s a first for Hollywood—no movie has ever sold tickets this early! But there’s a catch: these tickets are only for special IMAX 70mm showings, which is the format Nolan likes, and they’re only available at a few theaters.

Guess what? Tickets are selling out fast! ScreenRant reports some cities are already sold out. This is how excited people are for Nolan’s next movie after Oppenheimer which made $975 million worldwide and won Best Picture. Fans are definitely stoked for this epic story.

So what’s all the fuss about?

First, it’s Christopher Nolan, the mastermind behind The Dark Knight, Inception, and Interstellar. His movies are events, especially when shown in IMAX 70mm. This format brought in 20% of Oppenheimer’s box office, even though it was only shown in 30 theaters worldwide. The Odyssey is a movie based on an ancient story by Homer. It’s about King Odysseus (Matt Damon) trying to get home after the Trojan War. Meanwhile his son Telemachus (Tom Holland) is looking for him.

The journey takes ten years. The cast is amazing with big names like Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o and more. ScreenRant says a teaser trailer played before Jurassic World Rebirth and Superman and fans are loving it even though it’s not online yet. Also this is the first movie shot entirely with IMAX cameras so the visuals are going to be insane!

Why are IMAX 70mm tickets so special?

ScreenRant says fans of Oppenheimer traveled to different states to see the 70mm versions, which were sold out for weeks. Only a few dozen U. S. Theaters can show 70mm movies, so these tickets are like gold. Universal and IMAX are counting on Christopher Nolan’s fans and ScreenRant reports early ticket sales are strong—some showtimes sold out in minutes! If demand stays high they might add more showtimes like they did with Oppenheimer. This is a big risk since The Odyssey is still being filmed and Charlize Theron’s scenes are being shot this month. It’s a $250 million bet but Nolan’s track record makes it a good one.

Should you go for this?

If you’re near an IMAX 70mm theater like AMC Lincoln Square in New York or BFI IMAX in London, act fast! ScreenRant says tickets are available on Fandango but they’re selling out quick. Planning a movie a year in advance is a big deal but for Nolan fans it’s like a special journey. If you miss out don’t worry regular tickets will be available later. This shows Universal believes The Odyssey will do big at the box office and I’m excited to see how it changes the way epic stories are told.
